Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour
A monumental 1554 naval fortress in Senglea revived into an extraordinary luxury design retreat featuring dramatic vaulted masonry and superyacht marina views.
A Fortress Built for Knights and Galleons
Originally erected in 1554 by Grand Master Claude de la Sengle, 'La Macina' was an integral component of Senglea’s fortification line. For centuries, the building housed a massive sheer-crane mechanism used to hoist towering masts into the battle galleons of the Order of St John. Its walls—some exceeding four meters in thickness—exude a monumental permanence.
Architect Edwin Mintoff and designer D уника transformed the stone citadel into a haven of understated European luxury. Minimalist Scandinavian furnishings, polished concrete, and brass details complement the rough-hewn Globigerina stone arches, ensuring the structure's military character remains the defining aesthetic hero.
Rooftop Splendor Over Superyachts
High above the fortifications, the hotel’s glass-edge rooftop pool provides sweeping views across the Dockyard Creek, the historic maritime town of Birgu (Vittoriosa), and Fort St. Angelo. Guests enjoy private bespoke ferry transfers directly across the Grand Harbour into Valletta in under eight minutes.
